Alright, listen up. There's been a lot of chatter about the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot, this time helmed by Oscar-nominated director Jason Reitman. Now, if you remember, back in 2016, we had an all-female version of the classic franchise. Naturally, people have strong feelings about it, but Melissa McCarthy, who played a key role in that film, is all for this new direction.
At 48 years old, Melissa McCarthy is nothing short of a powerhouse. Recently, she was catching up with ET on the red carpet at the 2019 Oscar Wilde Awards in Santa Monica, California. During the chat, she mentioned that this new Ghostbusters movie doesn't ruffle her feathers at all. In fact, she's fully supportive. “I’m for anybody who’s making movies,” Melissa shared. “I had a conversation with Jason about it. He’s had this idea for a while, and it goes back to the world where the original guys existed. I told him, ‘I want to see that.’” She emphasized, “I’m all for it. I say, ‘Tell the story.’”
Why Melissa McCarthy is Excited for the New Ghostbusters

Here's the deal: Melissa starred alongside Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, and Leslie Jones in the 2016 Bridesmaids-inspired Ghostbusters flick. While it didn't set the box office or critics' hearts on fire, Melissa remains enthusiastic about the new take. “There’s so many stories to be told,” she said. “Jason is an incredible filmmaker and storyteller, so I’ll definitely be there, buying my ticket. I’m all for it.”

The Mixed Reactions from the Cast
But not everyone shares Melissa's excitement. Leslie Jones, who's no stranger to speaking her mind, took to Twitter last month to voice her frustrations. At 51, Leslie wasn't exactly thrilled about the new team of busters stepping in. “So insulting. Like f–k us. We dint [sic] count … Those women ain’t ghostbusters. Ugh. So annoying. Such a d–k move. And I don’t give a f–k, I’m saying something!!” she tweeted, leaving no doubt about her feelings.

Jason Reitman, son of the original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, still had kind words for the 2016 film, directed by Paul Feig. He told Entertainment Weekly, “I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses and would love to see more stories from them.” He added, “However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film.”
