Taron Egerton Talks About the Exciting Project
During a recent appearance on the UK’s Jonathan Ross Show, Taron shared his excitement about the project, which focuses on the early days of Elton’s illustrious career. He said, “I’ve been so thrilled about this. Elton’s production company and Matthew Vaughn’s team are creating a musical fantasy — not exactly a biopic — that dives into the early years of Elton John. It will feature his legendary songs, and I’ll be doing both acting and singing. As far as I know, it’s going to be the world’s first R-rated musical. It won’t shy away from portraying Elton’s bold and flamboyant personality. I think it will be intense and unforgettable, capturing the essence of who Elton truly is.”
In a separate interview with MTV, Taron added, “This has been a long time coming. I’m absolutely thrilled but also a bit nervous. I’ve met Elton before, and he was incredibly supportive of my singing. Matthew Vaughn and Dexter Fletcher are involved, so it feels like a dream team. It all started when Hugh Jackman and I recorded a song for Eddie the Eagle. Matthew heard it and said, ‘You can sing?’ I replied, ‘Yeah, kind of.’ From there, things just snowballed. The scariest part is that I just don’t want to mess it up. After all, it’s Elton John we’re talking about.”
Based on the trailer and their breathtaking duet, it seems like Taron has nothing to worry about. Mark your calendars for Rocketman, hitting theaters on May 17, 2019.
