An Unforgettable Moment
There’s something incredibly special about how Bradley Cooper and his late father, Charles Cooper, spent their final moments together. It wasn’t just a goodbye—it was a deeply personal and touching connection that Bradley holds dear to this day. In an intimate conversation during an interview in New York City on February 5, Bradley opened up about the profound impact that experience had on his life.
A Gift Beyond Words
At 44 years old, Bradley Cooper is no stranger to emotional moments, but none have been as impactful as the time he spent with his father before he passed away from lung cancer in 2011. "It was everything," Bradley said, reflecting on those precious final moments. "It was the biggest gift he gave me. The second biggest gift—having me, bringing me into this life—and then allowing me to be there, to witness his passing, was equally as monumental."
Bradley went on to share how intimate the moment felt. "He was cradled in my arms, and when he took his last breath, I honestly felt like it went into me," he explained. "It was a transformational experience, and I’ve never seen anything the same way since. It changed the way I approach life, love, and even my work."

A Life-Changing Experience
Bradley shared how this experience shifted his perspective on life. "After that moment, I stopped worrying about things that used to bother me. It changed the way I approached my acting career almost immediately," he said. "The next day, I felt like I was living differently. I’d seen death before, but losing my father in that way—it changed everything."
Even though it’s been more than five years since his father passed, Bradley still feels his presence in dreams. "I cherish those dreams," he admitted. "In the beginning, he was very sick in my dreams. But now, when he appears, he’s healthy. For the first couple of years, he was ill in my dreams, but now, he looks like he’s 50 years old. It’s a beautiful reminder of the man he was."
Fatherhood and Legacy
As a director, producer, and now a father to a 22-month-old daughter named Lea De Seine with his girlfriend, Irina Shayk, Bradley says his little girl reminds him of his dad. "Having a family has changed everything," he reflected. "Our daughter is incredible. I see my father in her quite often. There are moments where I’ll be with her, and I’ll say, 'Dad?' It’s surreal. She looks just like him sometimes. I guess I watch too many movies!"
