Anne Hathaway Opens Up About The Price Of Fame And Oscar Glory

Hey there! Let’s talk about Anne Hathaway. You know her, right? The incredibly talented actress who won an Oscar for her role as Fantine in the 2012 movie adaptation of Les Misérables. It was a major career moment for her, but it came with a price. Anne recently revealed that her health suffered significantly during the preparation for that role, and it left her feeling “really sick.”

Back in the day, when Anne was just 36, she opened up to People magazine about the intense weight loss she underwent for the role. She lost a significant amount of weight in just two weeks, which she now admits was “unhealthy.” At the time, she didn’t know much about nutrition, and she pushed her body to the limit. “I taxed my body, and my brain bore the brunt of it for a while,” she explained. “I felt very anxious and lost during that period.”

The Impact of the Role on Her Health

For her role as Fantine, Anne lost a staggering 25 pounds, but the impact of that weight loss lingered long after the movie wrapped. “That weight loss was not a long-term good thing for my health, and it took a really long time to come back from it,” she confessed. Even now, years later, she still feels the effects. “And I was still really sick because of it,” she admitted. The experience taught her a valuable lesson about the importance of maintaining her health, even in the face of demanding roles.

At the time, Anne was going through some major life changes. She had just turned 30 and gotten married, and while these were positive moments, they also brought upheaval to her sense of identity. “Even the most positive thing can be upheavals to your identity,” she reflected. “So to just have this moment and not really know who I was — and the moment when you just feel like you’re on display — it wasn’t a comfortable feeling. And I didn’t do what I hoped that I would if I ever found myself in that moment.” Looking back, she expressed a bittersweet sentiment, saying, “Life went on beyond it. I feel much emptier now. It would have been nice if it had happened then, but I’ll still take it.”

These days, Anne is prioritizing her health in new ways. During a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she revealed that she’s decided to give up alcohol for the sake of her son, Jonathan Rosebanks Shulman, who’s now 2 years old. “For 18 years. I’m gonna stop drinking while my son is living in my house,” she joked. She explained that she doesn’t love the way she drinks and that her son is reaching an age where he needs her more than ever, especially in the mornings. It’s a decision that reflects her growth as both a mother and a person.
