Here’s the deal: If you’re a fan of Grey’s Anatomy, you won’t find Ellen Pompeo’s husband, Chris Ivery, watching alongside you. While millions tune in weekly to catch the medical drama, Chris has opted out of being a viewer, and it’s not because he doesn’t support his wife. It’s more about those, well, let’s call them "awkward love scenes." Who can blame him, right?
From Fan to Occasional Viewer
Back in the day, Chris used to enjoy watching Grey’s Anatomy. But over time, things changed. “There was a time I watched it a lot,” the 53-year-old music producer admitted to Us Weekly at the launch of the Sergio Tacchini STLA collection in Los Angeles on February 21, 2023. “But then I started wondering if she had a lover on screen, and that got weird for me. I’m not jealous or anything—I’m super confident in our relationship—but it can still feel a little awkward. You know what I mean? Like, she’s acting, but now she’s got this new guy, Giacomo [Gianniotti].”
Screen Love vs. Real Life
In the show, Ellen’s character, Meredith Grey, has embarked on a new relationship with Giacomo’s character, Dr. Andrew DeLuca. Chris acknowledges that Giacomo is a great guy in real life. “He’s actually really cool,” Chris shared. “I like him. But to be honest, I haven’t watched those scenes because they make me feel... I don’t know, a little weird. Even though I know it’s all acting, it’s still hard to separate sometimes.”

Still Her Biggest Fan
Despite his reluctance to watch the show, Chris insists he remains Ellen’s biggest supporter. “What’s the secret to our relationship? We’ve been together for a long time, and it’s all about making time for each other,” he explained. “If we need a date night, we take it. It’s about supporting each other, no matter what. And obviously, with three kids, life gets busy. She’s on set, I’m downtown working, but we always make sure to prioritize each other. She’s my biggest fan, and I’m hers.”
The couple tied the knot in 2007 and has three children together: Stella, 9, Sienna, 4, and Eli, 2. Ellen has spoken openly about the importance of exposing their kids to diverse cultures. “As parents, it’s our responsibility to show our children the world and all the different types of people in it,” she said during an episode of Red Table Talk. “It’s about teaching them to appreciate differences and embrace diversity.”
So, while Chris may not be tuning in for Meredith Grey’s latest romance, one thing’s for sure: This couple is a team. And sometimes, being a good partner means knowing when to skip those awkward TV moments.
