Joanna Gaines Finds Joy In Simple Moments With Family

Let’s talk about Joanna Gaines for a moment. Sure, she's the queen of home design and has made a name for herself on HGTV, but deep down, her happiest moments come from the simplest things in life. You know what she loves more than designing dream homes? Gardening with her kids. That’s right, Joanna recently opened up to Southern Living about the joy she finds in nurturing plants alongside her children. “It’s such a simple way to connect with my kids,” she said, sharing how these moments mean the world to her.

Appreciating the Little Things

At 40 years old, Joanna, along with her husband Chip Gaines, 44, has built an empire that makes parenting look effortless. But trust me, it’s not all sunshine and roses. Since the arrival of their fifth child, Crew Gaines, last summer, Joanna has learned to cherish those small, everyday moments even more. She admitted to Southern Living that she regrets not remembering the little details from raising her first four children—Drake, Ella, Duke, and Emmie. To avoid missing out this time around, Joanna now keeps a journal to document every precious moment. “Motherhood means everything to me,” she said, emphasizing how family is her top priority. “Even if everything else in my life disappeared, these kids are my everything.”

When you scroll through Joanna’s Instagram feed, it’s clear that she loves cozy weekends with her family. Whether it’s sweaters, sweatpants, or just plain old snuggles, she’s all about creating a warm, inviting atmosphere at home. Who doesn’t love a happy weekend spent lounging around with loved ones?

Striking a Balance Between Work and Family

When Fixer Upper first hit our screens back in 2014, Joanna and Chip already had their hands full with four kids. Balancing work and family life wasn’t easy, and Joanna admits she went through plenty of "stages of guilt." But here’s the thing—Joanna doesn’t dwell on the negative. Instead, she focuses on finding small, meaningful ways to show her kids how much they mean to her. Whether it’s whipping up a cup of hot cocoa or planting flowers together, it’s all about those little connections. “What can I do to show my kids that I love them?” she asks herself daily. And honestly, that’s a lesson we could all take to heart.

    Time Off, Family On

Now that Joanna and Chip are enjoying a well-deserved break between the end of their HGTV show and the launch of their new cable TV network, they’re soaking up every moment together as a family. Joanna’s been keeping things low-key at home, spending quality time with Chip and the kids. “Time together as a family is a gift,” she gushed, reminding us all to slow down and appreciate the people who matter most.

    Welcoming Crew into the Fold

When Crew came into their lives last June, it brought back memories Joanna hadn’t experienced in years. Having four older children—Drake, 13, Ella, 12, Duke, 10, and Emmie, 8—meant that raising a newborn was a distant memory for Joanna. But this time around, she’s savoring every second. “When I had the first four, it was a whirlwind,” she confessed. “But now, with Crew, it’s so different. Even the simplest things, like taking him to the doctor when he’s sick, remind me of how precious life is.” Joanna’s ability to find beauty in the little moments is truly inspiring.
