The 46-year-old actress participated in a meaningful discussion at the 2019 MAKERS conference, where she interviewed Lisa Borders, the CEO of TIME’S UP. During the conversation, Garner passionately supported the "4 percent challenge," a movement aimed at encouraging Hollywood to hire more female directors.
As a Golden Globe-winning actress, Garner shared her firsthand experience with supporting female-driven projects. "I've worked on two films and shows where women were not only the driving force but also the directors," she said, according to Yahoo Lifestyle. "Is it a challenge? Absolutely, but I'm ready for it." Her enthusiasm for this initiative underscores her belief in the transformative power of female leadership in the film industry.
The Unique Energy on Sets Led by Women
Jennifer Garner emphasized that the atmosphere on film sets changes significantly when a woman is at the helm. "Those sets are different," she explained. "The leader sets the tone, and when a woman is in charge, it creates a unique dynamic. It's reflected in the crew, in how the project is managed, and in the types of conversations we have on set." The star of Alias and 13 Going on 30 believes that having a woman in a leadership role fosters a more inclusive and collaborative environment. "You just have to have a woman in charge," she insisted.

Jennifer Garner is currently starring in the HBO series Camping, which features episodes directed by women. She has also worked on female-directed films like Miracles From Heaven and A Happening of Monumental Proportions. "There's usually only one woman on set, and then maybe a costume designer, a makeup artist, or the script supervisor," she noted. "This is still very much a male world."

As someone who knows the challenges of making a name for herself in Hollywood, Jennifer Garner wants her children—Violet, 13, Seraphina, 10, and Samuel, 6—to remain grounded and humble. To ensure they don't lose sight of what truly matters, Garner takes them to her family farm in Oklahoma.
