The conversation was heartfelt and honest, giving fans a glimpse into Dolly’s mindset. She admitted that while she’s achieved so much, she doesn’t walk around thinking of herself as a big deal.

A Workhorse with a Show Horse Persona

“Well, I still don’t know that I’m a star,” Dolly shared with a laugh. “I say I’m a workhorse that looks like a show horse because I don’t think of it in terms like that. My dreams were always about being successful, traveling the world, wearing beautiful clothes, and having nice things. But more importantly, I wanted people to hear my songs and connect with my voice.”

Throughout her career, Dolly has faced her fair share of ups and downs. But when asked if she’d change anything if given the chance, she had a profound response. “I’ve thought about that a lot over the years,” she explained. “And honestly, if you change one thing, it changes everything. Everything I’ve ever done—even the things that might look like mistakes to others—felt like what I was supposed to do at the time. So, I can honestly say I wouldn’t do it differently. It could mess up something else.”

The Oscar-nominated star continued, “I try not to see those moments as mistakes. Instead, I view them as stepping stones or experiences that shaped me. The only regret I have is if someone else got hurt because of a decision I made that I thought was right for me. If that happened, I’d want to erase that pain, but I wouldn’t change the situation itself.”
