Hey there, friends. You know, life throws us all kinds of curveballs, and for actress Denise Richards, one of those has been navigating the unique challenges of raising her youngest daughter, Eloise. As a proud mom of three beautiful daughters, Denise knows firsthand that every child is different. And in a recent candid interview with People, the 47-year-old star opened up about her journey with Eloise, who has special needs, and the daily learning process that comes with it.
A Day in the Life of Parenting Eloise
Denise shared that Eloise, who is seven years old, has been diagnosed with a chromosomal disorder that has caused significant developmental delays. Eloise can only say a handful of words and sometimes acts her age, while other times she seems emotionally much younger. Denise described the experience as both challenging and rewarding, emphasizing that there’s no roadmap for her daughter’s specific case. “She can only say a handful of words, and there are times when she feels like her age in understanding, and then other times where it feels she’s emotionally 3 years old,” Denise explained. “It’s been challenging. I’m learning every day because they don’t really have a road map for her particular case.”

Every Child is Unique
Denise went on to say that, no matter what challenges come her way, she’ll always do what’s best for her children. “Every child is different. You take care of your children no matter what is going on with them,” she said. Denise admitted that she doesn’t know if Eloise will ever speak like a typical child, but as a parent, her priority is ensuring her daughter has the best life possible. “But as a parent, you want what’s best for your children, and you just do it.”
The Early Signs
Denise, who adopted Eloise as a single mother back in 2011, first noticed signs of her daughter’s developmental delays early on. “She wasn’t able to sit up on her own for a very long time, and she didn’t start walking until she was 2, and that was with physical therapy,” she recalled. It’s clear that Denise has faced her share of challenges, but she continues to push forward, learning and growing alongside her daughter.

Grateful for Motherhood
Despite the challenges, Denise remains grateful for the opportunity to be a mom to her three daughters—Eloise, Lola, 13, and Sam, 14. “I’m most proud of raising my kids, especially in a time that is very different from how I was raised,” she said. Denise acknowledged the difficulties of raising children in today’s world, noting how hard it is to keep kids grounded amidst all the distractions. “It’s extremely hard to keep children grounded. This is not an easy time to grow up,” she admitted.
