During her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last month, Debra Messing opened up about her dating life—or lack thereof. The 50-year-old star admitted she’s eager to find love but is struggling to meet eligible men. Luckily for Debra, she's surrounded by some pretty amazing friends who are stepping up to help her find Mr. Right. Host Ellen DeGeneres even offered to play matchmaker, but it turns out Debra already has a dream team working on her love life—her close friend Ali Wentworth and Ali’s husband, George Stephanopoulos.
Ali and George: Debra's Matchmaking Dream Team
When we caught up with Ali Wentworth at the Woman’s Day Red Dress Awards in New York City on February 12, she spilled the tea about her and George's matchmaking efforts for Debra. “George and I are setting her up right now,” Ali revealed. “She trusts us, but she’s also doing her own research. She googles suggestions! But honestly, she trusts George more than me.”

So, why does Debra trust George more when it comes to finding the right match? According to Ali, it’s because “she respects him, and he’s smart, and he’s not going to set her up with a male model who’s 18.” She added, “He knows smart, substantial people. And Debra, as you know, is not just an incredibly funny actress but also someone who’s politically engaged and deeply intelligent. She needs someone with substance. We’re setting her up, and a few of our mutual friends are also helping her out.”

The Excitement of Finding Love
Ali shared her excitement about the possibility of Debra finding love. “You never know. It would be really thrilling. I’d be like the mother of the bride—I’d be so excited!” she exclaimed. Despite their busy schedules, Ali and George, who have been married since 2001, are fully committed to helping their friend navigate the dating world.
Date Night Rituals That Keep the Spark Alive
Even as they help Debra find love, Ali and George make sure to prioritize their own relationship. In a previous interview with Closer Weekly, Ali revealed their quirky but effective date night routine. “George’s schedule is insane. He goes to bed at 8:30 p.m. because he gets up at 3 a.m., so a date night is dinner at, like, 5:30,” she explained. “We aim to have alone time once a week. We watch a movie and go to sleep. It’s so geriatric, but we love movies!”
