In the world of glitz and glamour, Hollywood parents often have mixed feelings about their kids following in their footsteps. But for Dancing With the Stars' Peta Murgatroyd and her husband Maksim Chmerkovskiy, there’s nothing they’d love more than to see their 2-year-old son, Shai, twirling on the dance floor just like them. As Valentine’s Day approaches, the star of Faith, Love & Hope opened up to Us Weekly about their adorable toddler's budding interest in dance and music.
“Shai absolutely loves music,” Peta, 32, shared with the outlet. “He’s completely obsessed with Pitbull and Dua Lipa, so we’re having constant dance parties throughout the day with him. Honestly, we’d be a little disappointed if he wasn’t coordinated, given that we’re his parents. It’s kind of adorable how he’s already showing signs of inheriting our passion for movement and rhythm.”

We’re all different and some of us come from far away places, but we’re all here and should do our best to give back… to America’s fallen heroes, thank you.

Expanding Their Family
As Shai continues to embrace his dancing genes, Peta revealed that she and Maksim, 39, are open to expanding their family. “We’re really excited about the idea of having more kids soon,” Peta admitted. “We’re not actively trying at the moment, but if it happens, that would be incredible. I’m not saying no to anything right now. Honestly, I’d love to give Shai a sibling who’s close in age so they can grow up together and share these beautiful experiences.”
Even though they’re not currently experiencing baby fever, the professional dancer did mention that Maksim is hoping for a baby girl next. “He’s like, ‘You’ve got yours, and now I want mine,’” Peta joked, adding that Shai is “all about” his mama, which she finds “so funny.”

Navigating Motherhood
Before adding another little one to their family, the New Zealand native admitted she’s still figuring out her role as a first-time mom. “I’ve realized that it’s impossible to do everything perfectly for everyone, and I’ve come to terms with that,” Peta said. “I’m not going to pretend I’m the perfect mom or the perfect wife. You just can’t listen to all the noise out there. It will overwhelm you if you start reading every comment or critique.”
Thankfully, Peta has all the support she needs from her handsome husband. “Maks has always encouraged me in the best ways possible, pushing me to explore new art forms,” she gushed. “He’s my number one supporter, always telling me, ‘You need to go and try this! You need to see if you’re good at that!’ His encouragement means the world to me. Having such a strong and supportive family unit makes all the difference. He’s truly incredible.”
