Picture this: it’s 1956, and Steve McQueen, a struggling actor with a leather jacket and a dream, picks up Neile Adams, a Broadway starlet with a heart full of hope, for their first date. “I had never been on a motorcycle before,” Neile, the former wife of the legendary star of The Sand Pebbles, recounted in a recent interview with Closer Weekly, now available on newsstands. “He said, ‘Get on and hold on tight.’ I was a convent girl, so I was used to being told what to do. That was the start of our romance!”

Neile, who was no stranger to the spotlight, found herself falling for a man who was about to become one of the biggest names in Hollywood. But despite the turbulence, one thing remained constant: his devotion to their children, daughter Terry, who tragically passed away at 38 in 1998, and son Chad, now 58. “Steve was loving and affectionate with them—that never changed,” Neile said with a warm smile.
