So, what’s her secret to looking so radiant at her age? Rita credits her Puerto Rican heritage, saying, “It’s all those amazing Puerto Rican genes. I know it is. There’s no plastic here.” She recalls that during the filming of the original West Side Story, her skin was actually darkened to fit the role of Anita, her Hispanic character. “I really resented it when they put very dark makeup on me because that’s not my color,” she told the Associated Press. “I remember one time saying to the makeup man who was making me up, ‘I really hate this color because this isn’t the color I am.’”

And guess what the makeup artist said to her? “What, are you racist?” Rita recalled being left “so stunned that I didn’t say anything.” She added, “I didn’t know what to say. That’s really also how little people knew about Puerto Ricans back then.”

As for the release of the new film, there’s no official date yet, but the anticipation is building. Fans are eager to see Rita Moreno bring her magic to the screen once again.
