Richard Schiff didn't follow the typical Hollywood path. At the age of 32, after leaving college and working at a fabric factory in Colorado, he made the bold decision to pursue acting. "When I returned, I enrolled in an acting class. What intrigued me was the ability to immerse myself in plays or movies and momentarily forget about my own life," Richard exclusively told Closer Weekly in their latest issue, available on newsstands now.
This daring move, which the now 63-year-old admits was uncertain at the time, turned out to be life-changing. "It did save my life, because I had no idea what I was doing. I had a deep desire to express myself, and I was utterly lost. When I discovered acting, I found my purpose," Richard confessed.

Connecting with Roles Close to Home
That newfound purpose has allowed the SAG Award-winning actor to play roles that resonate deeply with him—especially on The Good Doctor, where Richard portrays a mentor to a young autistic surgeon. "My son Gus is on the spectrum, and I probably was as well, before it was even considered a diagnosis," he revealed to Closer. "I even found myself taking a theater class in college so I'd be forced into social contact, something I didn't have otherwise."
