Imagine a world without Deidre Hall lighting up our screens as Marlena Evans on Days of Our Lives. It's hard to picture, right? After more than four decades playing this beloved character, Deidre, now 71, shares her thoughts on whether she can envision life without the iconic soap opera. In an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, she opens up about her remarkable journey, her family, and the challenges she's faced along the way.
“It’s funny, nobody’s ever asked me that question, and honestly, I don’t know!” Deidre confesses with a laugh. “Every year, when the show gets renewed, I feel this overwhelming sense of relief. I joke with my fellow cast members that every time I use my key card at the studio gate, I hold my breath for a moment, thinking, 'Oh, it opened—guess I get to come in today!' It’s been an incredible ride, and I’m so grateful to still be part of it.”

While Deidre’s personal life has had its share of challenges—four divorces and struggles with infertility—her on-screen adventures have been nothing short of extraordinary. From demonic possession to hysterical amnesia, her character Marlena has kept fans on the edge of their seats for decades. But there’s one personal issue close to her heart that she feels passionate about sharing: her mother’s battle with wet age-related macular edema (wet AMD), which eventually led to blindness. Deidre hopes her story will inspire others to seek early treatment and education.
