“I pretty much crushed her dreams,” Kelly confessed to ET with a chuckle, referring to her little one’s reaction. “I didn’t really realize what I was doing.” The 36-year-old singer, who was busy promoting her latest animated film, Ugly Dolls, continued, “I was explaining to her because she was confused, and I said, ‘It’s my voice. You know, like how Elsa and Anna have people who play them?’”

As Kelly recounted the story, it was clear she didn’t fully grasp the impact her explanation would have on her daughter. “And I didn’t get what I was doing!” she admitted, laughing at her own misstep. Sometimes, as parents, we don’t realize the power of our words until it's too late.

While Kelly felt terrible for being the one to break the news, she reminded herself that her clever daughter would have figured it out eventually. “I saw her little face, and I just saw the wheels spinning,” Kelly recalled. “It was like, ‘Oh no! But isn’t it exciting that you can meet the real girl that plays Elsa?’” Kelly quickly tried to turn the situation around, flipping the narrative into something positive. “I was like, let’s spin this into a positive!”
