Jenna Bush Hager Finds Comfort In Mom's Words Amid Pregnancy Guilt

Sometimes, it's the wisdom of a mom that can set everything right. Jenna Bush Hager, the beloved co-host of the Today show, has been navigating a wave of emotions following her third pregnancy announcement. Her mother, former First Lady Laura Bush, stepped in with advice that resonated deeply with Jenna, offering a comforting perspective on this chapter of her life.

Jenna Bush Hager Opens Up About Her Pregnancy Journey

At 37, Jenna Bush Hager shared the exciting news of her third pregnancy on April 22. But like many moms-to-be, she was grappling with feelings of guilt, especially as her close friend and co-host, Hoda Kotb, was also expanding her family. During an emotional segment on the NBC show, Hoda, who recently welcomed her second daughter, Hope Catherine, reassured Jenna with heartfelt words. “Jenna, first of all, you’re amazing. And when you told me that you were pregnant, I still remember because... we were wondering about adoption issues, but listening to you, I was praying,” said Hoda, her voice filled with admiration and empathy.

Hoda Kotb's Support and Jenna's Honest Moment

Hoda's words were more than just a reaction; they were a lifeline for Jenna. “And you said, ‘Oh Hoda, I feel so bad.’ I said, ‘Please don’t!’ I was literally kind of holding onto a little secret and look at us, now it’s all out in the open,” Hoda continued, emphasizing the importance of honesty and support among friends. But Jenna wasn't just leaning on Hoda; she turned to her own mom, Laura Bush, for guidance as well. Jenna recounted, “When I had that conversation with Hoda, because I knew she wanted this baby, I called my mom. I said, ‘Barbara’ — who just got married — ‘and Hoda, they want these babies, and I have this guilt.’ And my mom said, ‘Everybody gets their babies when they’re supposed to.’”

Her mom’s words carried a lot of weight, given that both Laura Bush and her mother battled infertility for years. Jenna reflected, “My mom and her mom before her struggled with infertility forever, and so I thought that was a beautiful thing to say.” Jenna’s acknowledgment of her family's history with infertility added a poignant layer to her current situation, reminding her of the timing and grace in life’s blessings.

Already parents to Poppy Louise, 3, and Margaret, 6, Jenna and her husband, Henry Hager, are thrilled about the newest addition to their family. Despite the initial feelings of guilt, Jenna is embracing the joy of pregnancy wholeheartedly. “We’re thrilled, it is a shock, it’s a lot, but we’re grateful,” she shared. Her daughters, too, are excited about the news and can't help but share it with everyone they meet.
