There’s a bond so deep that even time and distance can’t break it. That’s exactly how Bindi Irwin feels about her late father, Steve Irwin. Even though he’s no longer physically with her, she believes he’s still cheering her on, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. At just 20 years old, Bindi has stepped into her role as a global wildlife advocate with grace and poise, but love? That’s personal, and she knows her dad would be all about it.
Recently, Bindi, along with her younger brother Robert, 15, and their mom Terri Irwin, 54, attended the Paley Center Presents An Evening with The Irwins: Crikey! It’s the Irwins Screening & Conversation on May 3. During the event, Bindi was asked about her relationship with her longtime boyfriend, Chandler Powell. Let’s just say her response was heartfelt, authentic, and a true reflection of her dad’s teachings.
Following Her Heart: What Bindi Thinks Dad Would Say

“You know, Dad was always such a kind and wise person,” Bindi shared, her voice filled with admiration. “He always believed in following your heart and doing what makes you happy. That’s something truly beautiful, and it’s something I’ve carried with me every single day. My mom and brother have been incredibly supportive, always reminding me to trust my heart and live life to the fullest. So, if and when I decide to get married, I know it’s going to be something really special because it will come from a place of genuine love and joy.”

She went on to add, “I think Dad would have said, ‘Just do what makes you happy and follow your heart because that’s what life is all about.’ Life’s a journey, and if you’re lucky enough to find someone who complements your journey, then you’ve got to embrace it. It’s all about love, happiness, and creating a life filled with meaning and purpose.”
Chandler Powell: The Love Story That Grew at the Zoo

Bindi and Chandler Powell, 22, have been together for five years now. Their love story began at a zoo, where they bonded over their shared passion for wildlife conservation. Despite their strong connection, marriage isn’t on their immediate radar. Chandler, a professional wakeboarder, revealed to People, “We’re really happy right now. We love traveling together and working at the zoo. It’s all about enjoying the moment and making the most of every day.”
In a similar vein, Bindi told In Touch, “We’re so busy with our lives that we haven’t even thought about the pressure of marriage. We’re just enjoying the ride, exploring the world, and having fun. When the time is right, we’ll let everyone know!”
